Nancy Roll finds inspiration in the constantly changing weather and luminous light in New England, frequently painting outdoors to observe the fleeting moments of wind, rain, sunrise, moving clouds and changing light that are a hallmark of the region. She finds the best painting subjects close to home, frequently taking trips to Breakheart Reservation, the Middlesex Fells, Maine, the White Mountains, Cape Cod and the North Shore marshes and coastline in an attempt to bring New England’s unique atmosphere indoors.
Nancy graduated from the Cleveland Institute of Art 5 year BFA program majoring in metalsmithing, enameling and painting. She lives and maintains a studio in Wakefield, MA and divided her time between painting, enameling and jewelry making. Color and pattern ideas used in a painting will often resurface in her enamel work and jewelry, allowing her to reinterpret her own work for her audience.
Among the awards Nancy has received are the Helen G. Perry Traveling Fellowship and a Massachusetts Artists Foundation Fellowship grant in Metals/Enameling.
