Lorrie DiCesare, jeweler, opened Hourglass Gift Gallery in 1999. In addition to selling her own jewelry, she wanted to give her community of Melrose, and the people in the Greater Boston area, a place where they can buy truly unique pieces of art alongside crafts and jewelry, all hand-made by local and nationally-recognized artisans. In fact, Lorrie’s passion for art and the people who create it is obvious wherever you look in the shop, in every nook and cranny.

Hourglass has everything one could want from a small, community-minded business, U.S. made gifts and jewelry, fine art at every price point, and frequent opportunities for patrons to buy pieces that benefit local and national charities.

Hourglass genuinely is a labor of love for Lorrie. After spending 23 years in the insurance industry, the jewelry maker and artist followed her dream opening the gallery at its original location on West Emerson Street. The reception from Melrose and the surrounding communities was better than she could have hoped for, and a year later, she moved the shop to a much larger location on Main Street, in Melrose where it has remained ever since.

“I honestly believe in the idea that art should be for everyone,” Lorrie adds, “That’s why the gallery will carry paintings that sell for hundreds right nextto accessories you can pick up for $10. Everybody deserves the chance to own something unique and hand-made.”
