Diane Chambers “Master Painting hanger”
I love working at Hourglass because of the community. Not just the city of Melrose (which is great, esp. Main Street) but the community of artists that have been with the gallery for many years. We have a core group of loyal customers that are like family.
I love coming to work because I know I will see people I know and catch up on their lives. I’ll hear how their new painting looks, of what their niece thought of their new handbag. I get to help them find a card or a gift for someone special; I find great satisfaction when a customer says “Oh this is PERFECT!”
I REALLY like the fact that we’re directly supporting local artists.
I work with a great group of people. We support each other and balance each other’s strengths in a way that helps the gallery run smoothly. (Handles Fine Art, Shows and Glass vendors)
Working at Hourglass is such a positive experience. You are surrounded by beautiful, and sometimes whimsical, artful creations. Our clientele are great, much more than customers-they are our friends, Hourglass is a special Place. (Handles consignment)
Sarah Prato Sclafani
When I walked into Hourglass I said to myself this is the perfect place to sell my jewelry and I did. Five years later I decided to work here so I could enjoy a peaceful working environment and I was right! I love the creative local artists that keep creativity alive in Melrose. I really enjoy the colorful and eclectic mix of artistic items we sell in the store. It is so wonderful to work in a store that offers hand crafted items from local artists at affordable price points. The best thing is the strong local following we have from the community for supporting a small business and mostly made in America products. (You will see Sarah on Sundays and an occasional Tuesday)
